Robert Longo: The Acceleration of Hope

An Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Film by The Artist Profile Archive

Published Tuesday, Oct 14, 2025

Robert Longo: The Acceleration of Hope is a rare behind-the-scenes look at Longo's recent Pace Gallery exhibition, The Weight of Hope, as a sequel to his 2024 Milwaukee Art Museum exhibition, The Acceleration of History. The film features details of the installation process of both shows and includes exclusive interview footage. Both Longo and curator Margaret Andera discuss the importance of The Destroyer Cycle, which Longo began creating in 2014 in response to the death of Michael Brown by Ferguson police as well as what the most recent works in the series include. From socio-political to climate issues, audiences hear Longo grapple with issues of relevance, and revelation, ultimately sharing the reason for us to continue to maintain hope in these challenging times.

Robert Longo: The Acceleration of History at the Milwaukee Art Museum from October 25, 2024, through February 23, 2025, was curated by Margaret Andera, the museum's senior curator of contemporary art. The exhibition presented nearly 40 monumental drawings, sculptures, and videos created by the artist over the past decade, prominently featuring The Destroyer Cycle. This was the first solo presentation of the artist’s work in the Midwest in more than three decades.

Robert Longo: The Weight of Hope, also curated by Margaret Andera, spanning all exhibition spaces in Pace’s 540 West 25th Street flagship gallery from September 10 to October 25, 2025, is the largest show ever produced at the space and includes 26 drawings, three films, three sculptures, and 33 studies.
