Album Release: the sTans

A Collaboration Between Nina Katchadourian and Lisa Liu

Sunday, March 8, 6 PM
Park Church Co-op, Brooklyn

On Sunday, March 8, join Nina Katchadourian at 6:00 PM at Park Church Co-op in Brooklyn for a concert celebrating the release of her new album, the sTans, produced in collaboration with guitarist Lisa Liu.

Katchadourian explains:

"I'm thrilled to announce the release of a new album that I've made with Brooklyn-based guitarist Lisa Liu. We are called the sTans, as is our album. It's the result of a collaboration that started in November 2018 while [Lisa and I] were both fellows at the Rauschenberg Residency on Captiva Island, FL, at the former home and studio of artist and consummate collaborator, Robert Rauschenberg. Our songwriting began as an open experiment, but it took off, and four weeks later we had written 10 original songs . . . The album covers a variety of musical modes. There are songs about a sick seagull, a dead lizard, castaways, and cyclones. There have been unexpected influences (like a medieval French melody we heard in the tiny Captiva Chapel-by-the-Sea one day). One song is written from the perspective of a fish that has gotten caught, inspired by ads in free fishing magazines I found on the island. There are two songs about bugs. Many of the songs come out of the encounters with the landscape, nature, and weather of Captiva."

The album will be officially released on March 6, but is now available to stream and download on (opens in a new window) Bandcamp. To attend the concert, please purchase tickets (opens in a new window) here.
