Marc Glimcher on Maysha Mohamedi’s New Works

In this film, Pace CEO Marc Glimcher speaks about Maysha Mohamedi's latest paintings, on view in her exhibition Maysha the Fool at our 540 West 25th Street gallery in New York through April 25. “Maysha Mohamedi is a unique artist. Living a bit outside the art world, she makes her abstractions through a process of divination,” Glimcher says. “Sourcing a palette from photographs and old magazine pages, Maysha first ‘lays her hands’ on the painting and, while those handprints sit on the canvas, she waits—sometimes months—for the destiny of that unfinished work to be revealed to her. These new paintings are, in my opinion, extraordinary. You can feel the intensity radiating from the delicate forms and broken edges of the paint surface.”
