On the occasion of Living With Ghosts, curated by KJ Abudu at Pace Gallery in London, Pace Live will present a sonic lecture by Dr. Hannah Catherine Jones, artist, scholar, and conductor and founder of the Peckham Chamber Orchestra.

Encompassing language, music, and technology, Dr. Jones’s practice centers on ideas of inclusivity and decolonisation through sound-based performance. Held in partnership with Art in Mayfair, this sonic lecture will take place outdoors in the gardens of Hanover Square, activating the gallery’s local community. An after-hours viewing of the exhibition in the gallery will precede the sonic lecture from 6 – 7 PM.

Dr. Hannah Catherine Jones

Dr. Hannah Catherine Jones (aka Foxy Moron) is a London-based artist, scholar, multi-instrumentalist, broadcaster and DJ (BBC Radio/TV, NTS - The Opera Show), composer, conductor and founder of Peckham Chamber Orchestra – a community project established in 2013.

Jones recently completed her AHRC DPhil Art scholarship at Oxford University for which the ongoing body of work The Oweds was presented as a series of live and recorded, broadcast, audio-visual episode-compositions, using disruptive sound as a methodology of institutional decolonisation and was awarded with no corrections. Jones was a recipient of the BBC Radiophonic Oram Award for innovation in music (2018) and has been nominated for the Paul Hamlyn Award as a composer.

Dr. Jones has lectured/performed/exhibited widely, internationally, including showing Owed to Diaspora(s) at NIRIN - 22nd Biennial of Sydney, and has her first solo exhibition Owed to Chiron (The Wounded Healer) opening at Mimosa House Gallery, Holborn in October, 2022.

Living With Ghosts

By KJ Abudu

How to account for a continent that is at once everywhere and nowhere, for a continent whose “present” is irreducibly sutured to an unceasing past and to a non-arrived future? I am speaking here of a historical condition of immense spatio-temporal disjunction, of a here that always remains entangled with a there, of a now that always indicates the shadow of a then and a could-be.
