Marketing Director

Under the current leadership of CEO Marc Glimcher, Pace continues to support its artists and share their visionary work with audiences worldwide by remaining at the forefront of innovation. Today, Pace has seven locations worldwide, including a European foothold in London and Geneva; two galleries in New York; Los Angeles; Hong Kong; and Seoul, as well as offices in Beijing and Berlin. In spring 2024, Pace will open its first gallery space in Japan in Tokyo’s new Azabudai Hills development.

Pace is looking for a data driven expert in audience development to lead the global marketing team at Pace Gallery and to spearhead marketing activity covering the gallery’s international exhibition and art fair program, corporate initiatives, and the adjacent Pace Publishing, Pace Live, and Pace Verso program arms. In addition to acting as brand guardian and leading on creative marketing strategies, the Marketing Director contributes heavily towards content strategy, including concepting robust film productions and commissioned editorial content. Based in New York and reporting directly to the Chief Communications Officer (CCO), the postholder will be an active senior figure within the global Communications & Public Engagement team, which covers all public facing activity, including publicity, content development, marketing, digital engagement, private events, public programming, design, imaging, and publications. The role interfaces with teams at the gallery’s global locations and will be directly involved with the development and implementation of marketing strategies in connection to Pace’s openings in Tokyo and Berlin.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Oversee a Marketing team in the creation and execution of marketing plans and project timelines for all Pace exhibitions and art fairs following project kick-off meetings, and approve campaign templates for presentation to artists, dealer offices, and the wider Communications & Public Engagement team
  • Develop and maintain departmental project management systems and planning documents (including Asana calendars) to manage the workflow of the global marketing team and to facilitate best practices and interdepartmental communication
  • Guide marketing team in the development of project-based KPIs, then create and circulate internal reports measuring the success of marketing campaigns
  • Create and track global marketing budget in close collaboration with the CCO
  • Oversee Pace’s Social Media & Community Engagement Manager in the development of a social media strategy that includes paid and organic content and calendar, and upholds the gallery’s community engagement policy
  • Generate metrics-based audience development strategies focused on brand awareness and for specific projects, aligned with corporate goals outlined by the CCO
  • Implement print, out-of-home, and digital advertising strategies to cover display, programmatic, retargeting, and paid search advertising plans
  • Manage marketing contacts and data within the CRM, including developing and maintaining sophisticated segmentation rules and tagging systems, in conjunction with colleagues in Sales and Events; oversee program of direct emails to clients and subscribers
  • Proactively develop marketing strategies and tactics for corporate initiatives to be presented to the CCO, including creative planning for Pace Publishing, Pace Live, and Pace Verso
  • Proactively generate initiatives focused on growing awareness of the Pace brand in line with established corporate priorities for discussion with the CCO
  • Collaborate closely with PR leads on the alignment of PR and Marketing campaigns
  • Advise Design, Imaging, and Content teams on creative development of assets in the role of brand guardian

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts or marketing related field
  • 7+ years’ experience within the commercial art world, arts institutions, or within creative / cultural marketing agencies
  • Exceptional communications and interpersonal skills, including ability to present ideas in a compelling and clear way for a variety of audiences
  • Highly organized with experience planning and delivering complex integrated marketing campaigns
  • Excellent people management skills
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana
  • Professional or personal interest or familiarity with Web3 is a plus

Estimated compensation for this role is $125,000-$150,000.
