Song Dong: I Don't Know the Mandate of Heaven opens Saturday, January 21 at the Rockbund Art Museum in Shanghai, China. This exhibition puts on view a selection of works from Song Dong's prolific career, as well as two new pieces commissioned by the museum. Last week, Tate Modern inaugurated a new impressive building. The “Switch House” is a 10-storey extension in the shape of a truncated pyramid designed by Swiss architects Herzog and de Meuron. It features a striking combination of raw industrial spaces and refined 21st century architecture. To celebrate the opening on 17 June, Tate presents a series of works from the permanent collection, including pieces by Chinese artists Liu Jianhua and Song Dong. Details inside Song Dong's installation "Doing Nothing Doing" for Triennale Brugge 2015. The giant bonsai sculpture is made from the windows of demolished Chinese buildings. In large neon letters above the sculpture is written ‘Wu Wei’, a concept of Taoism that means ‘inaction’. This work expresses the tension between the unstoppable growth of megapolises and the treatment of heritage and nature. The Treinnale Brugge 2015 continues through 18 Oct.

Song Dong has been selected to represent the Ministry of the Flemish community in the Ca'Foscari Palace within the University of Venice along with Francis Alÿs and Rinus van de Velde. Their exhibition, Revenge of the Common Place, will explore the dynamics between the original and copies in art.
