She enrolled in the Escola Guignard art department at the Minas Gerais State University (UEMG), where she studied between 1995 and 1997. Sonia Gomes’ sculptural objects draw on natural elements, as well as narratives and practices that are historically associated with women and Afro-Brazilian tradition. Created as part of lille3000’s partnership with the France-Brazil season, the exhibition will present works by Sonia Gomes in the glass pavilion at the Louvre-Lens. Known for sculptures that combine sewing and embroidery with recycled materials, Sonia Gomes lives and works in Sao Paulo.
