Nina Katchadourian's Strange Creature

The Huntington Gardens, Los Angeles

Nina Katchadourian's Strange Creature is included in the group exhibition, Beside the Edge of the World, on view at the Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens in Los Angeles, California. The exhibition features five distinct but related projects by Katchadourian in addition to two artists and two writers: Dana Johnson, Robin Coste Lewis, Beatriz Santiago Mu˜noz, and Rosten Woo, and is on view from November 9, 2019 through February 24, 2020.

Curated by (opens in a new window) Clockshop in partnership with (opens in a new window) The Huntington, the exhibition takes as its departure point the 1516 text Utopia by Thomas More, which includes a map to the titular mythical island in its opening pages. The idea of Utopia is explored from this centuries-old map through to 20th century experiments in communal living, centering on communities existing on the margins of society.

To learn more about Katchadourian's inclusion in the exhibition, read (opens in a new window) John Lavitt's recent review in the Hollywood Times.
