News Maya Lin, Raqib Shaw and Kiki Smith included in Tomorrow's Tigers at Sotheby's London From January 29 – February 4, 2019, Sotheby’s London will host Tomorrow’s Tigers, a fundraising exhibition of specially commissioned rugs supporting the work of the World Wide Fund for Nature. The exhibition is comprised of specially commissioned limited edition art rugs by 11 internationally renowned contemporary artists – including Pace artists Maya Lin, Raqib Shaw and Kiki Smith. The rugs will be shown in dialogue with a collection of rare antique Tibetan Tiger Rugs, devised and curated by ARTWISE.At the beginning of the 20th century, experts suggest there may have been 100,000 tigers in the wild. Today, the global population has shrunk by over 95 percent as a result of rampant poaching and habitat loss. Tomorrow’s Tigers aims to raise awareness and funds in support of the Tx2 goal – a global commitment to double tiger numbers in the wild by 2022.Taking inspiration from the fabled Tibetan tiger rug as well as the splendour of tigers in the wild, each artist has designed a unique art rug, fabricated by rug-specialist Christopher Farr and his team of master craftsmen in the hills of Northern India. Incorporating innovative and bespoke weaving techniques with specialist hand dying and the finest natural wools and silks, these spectacular rugs push the boundaries of the art-form to meet the vision of each participating artist. For more information on Tomorrow's Tigers, please visit WWF's (opens in a new window) website.
