Films In This Space and Time: Lee Ufan at SMAC Venice Published Tuesday, Jun 16, 2026 One of the foremost figures of the Japanese Mono-ha (School of Things) as well as a key contributor to the Korean Dansaekhwa (Monochromatic Paintings) movements, Lee Ufan has long explored the possibilities of embodying and representing space and time through painterly gestures on canvas and the use of diverse sculptural materials. His landmark exhibition at San Marco Art Centre in Venice, staged across eight galleries at the Procuratie in Piazza San Marco, brings together a striking selection of paintings and sculptures from over seven decades.Presented by Dia Art Foundation as an official Collateral Event of the 61st International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, the exhibition's curation by Jessica Morgan, Dia’s Nathalie de Gunzburg Director, underscores Lee's extraordinary contributions to art in the context of the profound cultural influence of the storied city. "Since Venice is a place with such deep history, as a contemporary artist, I wanted to connect with that history and create a space in Venice where people could feel a fresh new atmosphere," says Lee. The exhibition is on view at SMAC Venice through November 22.
