Featuring "Just Back from Los Angeles: A Portrait of Yvonne Rainer"

List Center for Visual Arts, MIT, Cambridge
January 3 – February 11, 2018

List Projects: Adam Pendleton, opening on January 3, presents Pendleton's most recent video work, Just Back from Los Angeles: A Portrait of Yvonne Rainer at MIT's List Visual Arts Center. Part of Pendleton's ongoing series of video portraits, this piece centers on a meal the artist shared with dancer, choreographer, filmmaker, and writer Yvonne Rainer at a New York City diner. The video shows the unscripted conversation that took place over the course of their dinner, paired with footage of Rainer leading Pendleton in partnered movement exercises, Rainer reading from a script which draws from her writing and that of Stokely Carmichael, Malcolm X, and Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, and of Rainer's 1978 documentation of Trio A, to "stage an inter-generational dialogue across lines of sexual and racial difference that provoke critical inquiry into the artists’ shared questions of poetics and politics."

List Projects: Adam Pendleton will be on view January 3 through February 11, 2018 at the List Center for Visual Arts at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. For more information, visit the List Visual Arts Center's  (opens in a new window) website
