Hai Bo

The Southern

PHOTOFAIRS, San Francisco

February 23 – 25, 2018

As part of the inaugural Spotlight platform at PHOTOFAIRS San Francisco, Hai Bo will publicly debut his body of work titled The Southern.

Bringing his perspective as an artist from the northern region of China, Hai Bo explores the dynamic between the two regions, in which he describes the north as more of a physical place and the south as more of a spiritual place. Influenced by traditional Chinese Taoist notions of opposite elements Ying & Yang, Hai Bo explains,  “I think my works, especially “The Northern “ and “The Southern” series, are closely related to the eastern spirits. If  “The Northern “ series represents a heavy reality and pessimistic emotions, then “The Southern“ series is more about fantasy and virtual mental states. Life and art are just dreams.”

Hai Bo's "The Southern" will be on view as part of the Spotlight platform at PHOTOFAIRS San Francisco from February 23 through 25, 2018. For more information on the presentation, click (opens in a new window) here

Hai Bo will be in conversation with Pace Gallery Director Elizabeth Sullivan, moderated by Jessica Zhang of artnet, to discuss his artistic practice and "The Southern" series. The talk will take place Saturday, February 25 at 1:30 PM at PHOTOFAIRS, and is free for visitors with a ticket to the fair. To purchase a ticket, click  (opens in a new window) here
