These vibrant, shapeshifting collages—which reveal latent images through changes in lighting or perspective—speak to the artist's longstanding interest in perceptual and perspectival nuance. Within his retroreflective works, Thomas creates layers of archival images and formal allusions to the work of Henri Matisse, Romare Bearden, Roy Lichtenstein, and other modernists, shedding light on ideas and meanings that are hidden in plain sight.
