In this new series of films produced on the occasion of This & That—an exhibition of Claes Oldenburg's work on view at our Tokyo gallery through August 23, 2025—the artist's daughter Maartje Oldenburg discusses the themes and subjects that inspired her father’s lively sculptures. Here, she discusses the artist’s ability to use everyday materials to realize intricate musical instruments as animated sculptural entities. “Depicted in transition, the instruments imply sound while signifying through silence renewal in death,” she says. クレス・オルデンバーグの「This & That：聴こえる彫刻」

2025年8月23日まで東京ギャラリーで開催中のクレス・オルデンバーグ作品展「This & That」に合わせて制作されたこの新しい映像シリーズでは、娘のマーチャ・オルデンバーグが、作家である父の生き生きとした彫刻作品にインスピレーションを与えたテーマや主題について語ります。「聴こえる彫刻」では、身近な素材を用いて精巧な楽器を生き生きとした彫刻作品として表現するオルデンバーグの才能についてご紹介します。「移り変わりの中で描かれた楽器は、音を暗示すると同時に、静寂を通して死における再生を象徴しています」とマーチャは語ります。この映像シリーズの第3弾は、この夏、デジタルチャンネルで配信予定です。どうぞお楽しみに！
