Acaye Kerunen on "Neena, aan uthii"

Published Tuesday, Jan 28, 2025

On the opening day of her exhibition Neena, aan uthii in London, Acaye Kerunen sat down with us to share how climate-consciousness shapes her practice. In this film, she explores the radical possibilities of working in harmony with the seasons and the land. The natural materials in her installations—raffia, palm leaves, reeds, dry banana fibers, stripped banana leaves, sisal, and sorghum stems—root her work in Uganda’s heritage, natural environment, and the women’s communities whose livelihoods rely on these ecosystems.

Acaye Kerunen’s exhibition, her first solo presentation in the UK, is now on view at our Hanover Square gallery through February 22.
