In celebration of the opening of Paul Thek: Dream of Vanishing, Andrew Durbin, Elisabeth Sussman, Alex Da Corte, and Lynn Zelevansky will participate in a conversation at our gallery in New York on Thursday, May 14.

Taking inspiration from the works of painting, sculpture, and drawings on view in the exhibition, Durbin—author of The Wonderful World That Almost Was: A Life of Peter Hujar and Paul Thek (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2026)—will join Sussman, Da Corte, and Zelevansky in a wide-ranging discussion about Thek’s idiosyncratic, multifaceted practice. Coming from one of the most mysterious, provocative, and quietly influential figures in the history of post-1960s art, Thek’s work prompts prescient questions around the nature of art, its longevity, and its capacity for renewal.

Co-presented by Pace Live and The Watermill Center, the conversation will be moderated by Pace’s Chief Curator Oliver Shultz.

The Wonderful World That Almost Was will be available for purchase on-site, along with Paul Thek: Notebook #41, 1977 from Pace Publishing.
