On the occasion of the exhibition Asher Liftin: Recent Work at 125 Newbury, Pace Live will present an artist talk with Asher Liftin, Phong H. Bui, and Arne Glimcher on Saturday, October 3.

Within the gallery, Bui and Glimcher will discuss with Liftin his new paintings and drawings on view, in which he translates photographic images refracted in a glass eye into meticulously hand-crafted renderings on canvas and paper. The resulting images both evoke and extend histories of pointillism and divisionism while sitting on the border between the human and the mechanical.

Asher Liftin

Asher Liftin lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Liftin received a BA in Visual Art and a BS in Cognitive Science from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut in 2021, and was the Summer 2026 Artist-in-Residence at the Watermill Center in Watermill, New York. His first solo exhibition, Blow Up, was held in 2022 at Alessandro Albanese, Milan. Recent solo exhibitions have taken place at Nino Mier Gallery in New York (2023 and 2026) and Brussels (2024). His work has been included in several group exhibitions, including at Chili Art Projects, London (2025), Venus Over Manhattan, New York (2024), Rachel Uffner Gallery, New York (2024), Winter Street Gallery, Edgartown, Massachusetts (2023, 2024), and M+B, Los Angeles (2023). Works by Liftin are held in the permanent collections of the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid, and Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut.

Phong H. Bui

Phong H. Bui is an artist, writer, independent curator, and Co-Founder and Publisher/Artistic Director of the Brooklyn Rail, Rail Editions, River Rail and Rail Curatorial Projects. Bui has organized more than ninety exhibitions since 2000, and is a Board Member of International Association of Art Critics (2007-2019), Anthology Film Archives (2017-2023), Denniston Hill, Fountain House, Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, Monira Foundation, Second Shift Studio Space St. Paul, Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program, Studio in a School, the Third Rail, and the Center for Fiction.

Arne Glimcher

Arne Glimcher founded Pace Gallery in Boston in 1960 in a small, street-level shop on historic Newbury Street. The first exhibition at the gallery, which Glimcher opened when he was 22 years old, included work by his professors at the Massachuse!s College of Art and Design. The following season, he presented exhibitions by Josef Albers, Louise Nevelson, and Claes Oldenburg. In 1963, the gallery opened in New York City on 57th Street. Today, Glimcher serves as Chairman of Pace Gallery and helms 125 Newbury, a project space he opened in New York’s Tribeca neighborhood in 2022. Named for the address of Pace’s first-ever space in Boston, 125 Newbury operates in association with Pace, presenting up to five exhibitions per year with a focus on thematic group shows and emerging artists, including artists both within and beyond Pace’s program. Glimcher also continues to organize exhibitions at the gallery’s global locations.
