Touring Girl Group with Arlene Shechet at Storm King Art Center

In this new film, we walk with Arlene Shechet through Storm King Art Center in New York's Hudson Valley, visiting her six large-scale works on view in the sculpture park through November 10. With her vibrant outdoor sculptures, Shechet experiments with architecture, geometry, and curvilinear forms at new scales, imbuing each sculpture in Girl Group with its own idiosyncrasies and surprises. Here, the artist discusses her sculptures' relationships to one another, other works in the park, and their natural environment, sharing her hope that they might inspire a new kind of joy for visitors. "I wanted to fit in and also stand out," Shechet says of her intention for Girl Group. "I wanted to be part of the language of Storm King and nudge it forward."
