Museum Exhibitions "Orsay through the Eyes of Julian Schnabel" Orsay through the Eyes of Julian SchnabelOctober 10, 2018 – January 13, 2019Musée d’Orsay The Musée d'Orsay has invited painter and film-director Julian Schnabel to offer a reading of the collection across two historical rooms of the museum, proposing a new scenography and a selection of works never simultaneously presented.Since the start of his career in the 1980's, Julian Schnabel has cemented himself as one of the most celebrated painters alive. His works can be found in the most famous museums in the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He is also a major film-director, having directed movies such as Basquiat (1996) and Before Night Falls (2000). His 2007 film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly received the Golden Globes for Best International Film and Best Director, in addition to winning Best Director at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival. For this exhibition – the artist's first in a major French institution in over thirty years, and timed to coincide with the release of At Eternity's Gate, his new film about the life of Vincent Van Gogh – the artist places works from the museum's collection in conversation with a selection of his own paintings, demonstrating the qualities of the medium that have endured from the 19th century to today.
