Adam Pendleton: An Abstraction is both a document and an evolution of Pendleton’s first solo show at Pace’s New York gallery in ten years.

Comprised of paintings and drawings from the artist’s Black Dada and Untitled (Days) bodies of work, hanging within a monumental, site-specific architecture, An Abstraction created unexpected spaces in the gallery and extended the visual language of the exhibited works. Included in this volume is a new text by Marc Glimcher.

In his quest to upend and reimagine abstraction, grounded in history, Pendleton has charted a mode of painting that—irreverent, relentless, and powerful—encourages us to see the world in new terms.

Pendleton has created his own series of back alleys, formed by perfect black wedges, slicing the gallery into fragments of space activated through time as the viewer wends their way through the labyrinth.
