Barbara Hepworth (b. 1903, Yorkshire, England; d. 1975, St. Ives, United Kingdom) was a modernist British sculptor. Over the course of her career, her works changed from simplified naturalistic forms to purely abstract shapes. She emphasized the interior spaces of her sculptures and often applied paint and strings to her works. Her home has been preserved at the Barbara Hepworth Home and Sculpture Garden, which is run by the Tate. The Gallery has represented the Hepworth estate since 1996.
