Radical Inventor

Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

September 22, 2018 – August 4, 2019

In collaboration with the Calder Foundation, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will present the first major retrospective of the work of Alexander Calder in Canada from September 22, 2018 through February 24, 2019. The exhibition centers on the inventive talent of this American painter and sculptor, and will travel to the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne, Australia from April 5 – August 4, 2019.

Major loans are among the 100 works that illustrate this ingenious artist’s extensive means of  expression, ranging from paintings and drawings to wire circus figures, hanging and standing mobiles, sheet-metal stabiles as well as jewellery.
