Raqib Shaw: Reinventing the Old Masters will be on view at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, from 19 May – 28 October, 2018. In the exhibition, eight works by Raqib Shaw will be shown, alongside two paintings which have long obsessed him: Joseph Noel Paton’s The Quarrel of Oberon and Titania (1849) and Lucas Cranach’s An Allegory of Melancholy (1528). In 2016 Shaw painted a loose variant of Paton’s extraordinary fairy picture and his version after the Cranach painting
Tim Eitel: Resident is on view at the Kasteel Wijlre. The exhibition, on view in the Hedge House, appears to have been influenced by Eitel's long stay at the country estate. Typical of his ouevre, the work "balances figurative painting with a conceptual approach often discretely recording inconspicuous actions, situations, or objects from everyday life." Random International's site-specific Rain Room is on view for the first time in the Middle East, presented by the Sharjah Foundation at Al Majarrah Park. This immersive installation simulates the experience of continuous rainfall and invites the audience to move through the downpour yet remain dry, as their movements trigger motion sensors that pause the rainfall when their movements are detected. Rain Room reflects the relationship between man and machine and centers on audience interaction.
