LIGHTSCAPE: James Turrell will run from 7 June until 24 October at Houghton Hall, Norfolk, UK. Turrell is one of the most influential contemporary artists of the last half century. Using light as a medium, Turrell investigates themes of space and perception in his work.
LIGHTSCAPE plays host to an ambitious display of Turrell’s light pieces, centred around the personal collection of the Marquess of Cholmondeley, the owner of Houghton and a long-standing admirer of his work, and will be complemented with further pieces. A site-specific 45 minute light-show, The Illumination, has also been made for the exhibition, illuminating the entire west façade of Houghton Hall.
James Turrell: Recent Works was presented at Pace London last year. He has also recently exhibited at the Guggenheim, New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Turrell is currently showing a retrospective at the National Museum of Australia which will close as LIGHTSCAPE opens.
