Saul Steinberg's mural "The Americans" at the Museum Ludwig

Saul Steinberg's The Americans, a massive mural spanning nearly 250 feet made for the U.S. pavilion at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, is being exhibited by the Museum Ludwig in its complete state for the first time since the Fair closed. The exhibition will be on view from March 23 through June 23, 2013.For the U.S. pavilion, Steinberg created a monumental eight-panel mural-collage depicting a panorama of everyday life in America, ranging from the activity of the metropolis to the quiet idyll of a farm town. The exhibition will also feature related drawings from the 1950s by the artist, which, together with the murals, set Steinberg’s work firmly the context of the major art movements of the era.
