Kiki Smith to Participate in Frieze Sculpture

New York

Kiki Smith has been selected to participate in the inaugural edition of Frieze Sculpture New York, a major new public art initiative curated by Brett Littman, Director of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum. Frieze Sculpture New York will be presented at Rockefeller Center from April 25 through June 28, 2019.

Kiki Smith’s Rest Upon (2009/2016), a life-sized bronze sculpture of a lamb on top of a sleeping woman, will be presented by Pace on the floor in the walkway between the two channel gardens — a powerful, figurative symbol exploring the relationship between humanity and the natural world.

Rockefeller Center was conceived by John D. Rockefeller as a “city within a city” and a “mecca for lovers of art.” Each day, hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors pass through its public spaces and encounter some of the world’s most recognizable artworks, including Isamu Noguchi’s News, commissioned for the Associated Press building in 1940. Frieze Sculpture will encourage exploration of Rockefeller Center's whole campus, including its interior spaces and hidden histories.
