Press Release

  • Zona Maco

Pace Gallery is pleased to participate for the second time in Zona Maco. Pace will present works by artists across its program—ranging from the recent addition Lynda Benglis to artists and estates long represented by Pace including Jean Dubuffet, Matta, Elizabeth Murray, Louise Nevelson, Pablo Picasso, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith and Fred Wilson.

Pace’s exhibition will include a special focus on two artists that have been integral figures in Pace’s program and the broader field of modern and contemporary art: Antoni Tàpies (1923 – 2012) and Lucas Samaras. Highlighting the dynamism of Tàpies’s works on paper, the booth will feature drawings dating from the 1990s through the late 2000s made in a range of materials including oil paint, ink, pencil and collage.

An alcove in the booth will be dedicated to Lucas Samaras’s work including sculpture, painting and photography. One of the artist’s celebrated box sculptures from 1964 will be displayed amidst a selection of his early photo-transformation pieces and paintings from the 1970s. The alcove will also present some of Samaras’s most recent work in the photographic medium. As technologies have emerged, Samaras’s experimentation with photography has evolved and he is now using digital means to further manipulate and challenge its representative nature.
