New York— Pace Gallery is pleased to present eight new paintings by Thomas Nozkowski at the 2017 edition of The Art Show at the Park Avenue Armory, continuing the gallery’s seventeen-year tradition of dedicating its booth to one artist. Nozkowski continues his process-oriented approach with these new paintings, which we last saw in his exhibition Works on Paper at Pace Gallery in 2016.
Throughout his career, Nozkowski’s abstract paintings have been inspired by the world around him. "Everything I do comes from something in the real world: a place, a thing, an idea; there’s a source, a touchstone I’m after," says Nozkowski. His newest paintings continue in this spirit, and through his use of color and form, his observations and experiences unfold into a world of visual alchemy.
Thomas Nozkowski (b. 1944, Teaneck, New Jersey) received a B.F.A. from The Cooper Union Art School, New York in 1967. Known for his richly colored and intimately scaled abstract paintings, Nozkowski began exhibiting in group shows in 1973 and made his solo debut in 1979. By 1982, the Museum of Modern Art, New York, had acquired a painting from an early oneperson exhibition for their permanent collection. To date, Nozkowski’s paintings have been featured in more than 300 museum and gallery exhibitions worldwide, including over 70 solo shows.
Nozkowski lives and works in High Falls, New York. He has been represented by Pace since 2007.
