New York—Pace is pleased to announce its participation in the 2015 edition of EXPO Chicago, the International Exposition of Contemporary and Modern Art, which will be held at Navy Pier from September 17 to 20. At booth 522, Pace will present a selection of work by Tara Donovan, Adolph Gottlieb, David Hockney, Sol LeWitt, Robert Mangold, Kenneth Noland, Thomas Nozkowski, Richard Pousette-Dart, Robert Rauschenberg, Michal Rovner, Joel Shapiro, Kiki Smith, Keith Sonnier, Richard Tuttle and Fred Wilson.
In conjunction with the installation of a large-scale bronze sculpture by Joel Shapiro in Grant Park at 300 South Lakeshore Drive on the Chicago lakefront, Pace will present a selection of Shapiro’s sculptures composed of rectangular shapes, which allude to the human figure and dynamic movement in space.
EXPO’s curated IN/SITU program will include work by Keith Sonnier, who has explored the effects of color and line in neon sculpture since the 1960s. A career-spanning exhibition of the artist’s work entitled Keith Sonnier: Light Work is concurrently on view at Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain (MAMAC) in Nice through November 29. In its booth, Pace will present a work by Sonnier that inventively joins neon light with found materials. This integration of diverse elements resonates with the work of Robert Rauschenberg, who will have an assemblage work from the 1980s on view at Pace’s booth. In October, Pace will present an exhibition of Rauschenberg’s work from the 1990s at its 534 West 25th Street location in New York.
In his recent black glass work, Fred Wilson uses an eighteenth-century traditional Venetian style to recontextualize familiar forms such as mirrors and chandeliers by rendering them in black-colored glass. His work provokes an inquiry into the layers of meaning associated with color and form, and his objects operate as metaphors for contemporary social issues.
The booth will also include paintings by Richard Pousette-Dart. On October 2, The Drawing Center in New York will present an extensive exhibition of the artist’s work from the 1930s, featuring approximately eighty works including drawings, notebooks and bronze sculptures.
Also on view at Pace’s booth will be a pin drawing by Tara Donovan; paintings from the 1980s and 2000s by Kenneth Noland; and Column Structure works by Robert Mangold.
