Pace is pleased to present works from photographer Richard Misrach’s never-before-exhibited Shorebreak series at its Palm Beach gallery.

The presentation will feature seven works depicting otherworldly seascapes created by the artist in 2021. Included in the exhibition are large- and medium-scale photographs as well as a triptych of images.

With the works on view in Pace’s presentation, Misrach captured photographs of a single body of water and created these images by altering their colors. The artist’s use of this digital technique, which he has not previously employed in his storied landscape photography practice, yields ethereal visions of the ocean and sky that reflect the natural environment of Palm Beach. This body of work was informed, in part, by jazz riffs—the photographs can be understood as engaged in a musical exchange with one another.

Misrach has gifted one of the works from the Shorebreak series to the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach for its annual gala, building on his presence in the local arts community. The artist’s work is part of the Miami-based Margulies Collection.

A champion of color photography as an art form since the 1970s, Misrach has been at the forefront of image-making for some 50 years. The artist is best known for his politically resonant, large-scale images of the landscape of the American West. Through his work, the artist has investigated the effects of pollution and climate change, the aftermaths of Hurricane Katrina and the 2016 United States presidential election, and other subjects related to America’s varied terrain.
