Pace was one of the first international galleries to establish outposts in Asia where it operates permanent spaces in Hong Kong and Seoul.Pace Gallery is seeking an experienced shipping professional to join the New York based shipping team as a full-time Shipping Manager. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of domestic and international artwork shipping best practices and a familiarity with a wide range of associated vendors and agents. The Manager will be responsible for and capable of arranging and tracking any type of gallery shipment, from single sold works, to large, consolidated inventory shipments, in a timely, safe and budget conscious way, following the established protocols of the gallery. The Manage must be detail oriented, a clear and effective communicator, able to multi-task with ease and maintain composure in high stress and deadline driven situations, quick thinking and comfortable interfacing and problem solving with clients, vendors, and Pace team members. What You’ll Be Doing:Coordinate artwork shipments for assigned Dealer offices/regions in collaboration with local and international gallery shipping teamsFollow coordinated shipments from beginning to end, including sourcing quotes for packing and transit, booking, coordinating with clients, vendors and Dealer offices, and generating, and archiving all necessary documentationWork closely with various departments to assess projects and tailor shipments to ensure safe and effective packing, transportation, and storage of gallery shipmentsLiaise with and offer guidance as needed to galleries, clients, auction houses, artist studios, estates and museums on packing, shipping, and installation of artworksWork within established shipping budget, taking measures to reduce costs where possible, including negotiating rates with vendorsCoordinate domestic and international FedEx shipping for lower value itemsManage all aspects of international import/export shipments including crating, supervision, documentation for customs and monitor any timelines for necessary returnsWork closely with accounting department to approve invoices and provide documentation for auditsMaintain a thorough understanding of New York State as well as U.S. tax policy and follow Pace Gallery’s related sold shipping protocolsProvide daily administrative support for Shipping Department and function as back-up for Shipping colleagues during vacations, sick leave, etc.Additional responsibilities as assignedWhat You’ll Bring:BA Degree in related fieldMinimum 3+ years’ experience working for either a museum, fine art gallery, auction house, or Fine Art shipping agentProven experience booking diverse shipments, trouble-shooting complex packing and shipping issues and managing multiple projects at once with the ability to effectively prioritize while maintaining composureExtensive knowledge of and comfortability with art handling, packing, and condition reporting best practicesExtensive knowledge of and comfortability with particulars for booking Fine Art air, truck and ocean shipmentsExcellent knowledge of US tax and international insurance and customs regulations, as well as import and export documentationExtremely detailed oriented, organized, and an effective communicatorExcellent computer skills, PC/Mac platforms, and strong familiarity with database programsProfessional, positive work demeanor and the communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with vendors, clients, and co-workersStrong work ethic with an ability to manage heavy workload while efficiently and effectively prioritizing responsibilities to meet deadlines and deliver resultsAbility to manage budgets and keep detailed recordsA working knowledge of and passion for modern and contemporary artEstimated compensation for this role is $70,000-$85,000.
