East Hampton

Pace Gallery is seeking a professional and experienced part-time or full-time Long-Island-based Preparator to oversee art installations (exhibitions and viewings) at our East Hampton gallery and Sagaponack viewing space. Candidates must be reliable and flexible with a high level of comfort handling, packing and installing artworks of all media. Responsiveness, strong communications skills and the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple tasks at once are essential. This role will work closely with our East Hampton-based staff as well as the New York Art Resources Team.

What you'll be doing:
  • Safely and properly handle, install, and pack artwork
  • Receive artwork and maintain updated inventory records/movements
  • Upload BOL’s into database
  • Carry out basic condition reports and liaise with Registrars regarding condition issues
  • Arrange for shipment of artwork locally on Long Island as well as between Long Island and New York gallery locations
  • Hire and direct third-party preparators as needed
  • Prepare gallery space for exhibitions and client viewings including all prepping, painting, patching, lighting, and installing
  • Assist with viewings, exhibition turnovers, and special projects as needed
  • Additional duties as assigned
What you'll bring:
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working for a gallery, auction house, artist, or museum
  • Knowledge of best practices and materials for packing and installing artwork
  • Experience installing a wide range of artworks including heavy and oversized sculptures
  • Must have a diverse understanding of different mediums and materials
  • Must be extremely diligent and careful in handling artwork
  • Ability to clearly communicate with supervisors and fellow preparators is required
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Must have basic computer skills along with familiarity of database programs/software
  • BA in Art History or related field preferred
