Pace was one of the first international galleries to establish outposts in Asia where it operates permanent spaces in Hong Kong and Seoul.The Registrar has experience and expertise in all Registrarial areas and is responsible for ensuring smooth, efficient project management and timely responses to dealer office for requests, acquisitions, Palette inventory record management, consignment, loan, approval and gift agreements, condition reports, exhibitions and special projects. Daily responsibilities will include database management, drafting and following up on contracts, conducting condition inspections, assisting with exhibition planning, and shipping and liaising with internal departments as well as outside vendors, museums, framers, conservators, shippers and artists’ studios. The Registrar will support and collaborate closely with other registrar team members and frequently work with greater art resources departments and the sales team. What You’ll Be Doing:Provide Registrar support on projects related to assigned sales office to establish and maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with artists, artist studios, estates, and clientsContinually develop expertise with artist’s oeuvres; series, techniques, materials, inscriptions, optimum packing, etc.Catalogue artworks in inventory system and ensure records are up-to-date and accurateObtain and vet artwork cataloguing with artists/studios/estates/Research & Archivesdepartment and complete and process intake formsEnsure critical artwork information, including packing details and dimensions arecaptured and updated in databaseAssist with management of assigned exhibitions and facilitate related exhibitions artworkshippingPrepare detailed condition reports, including clear evaluations of artwork conditionCoordinate inspections and approve packing and installation specsDraft, negotiate, maintain, and follow up on consignment, loan, approval and giftagreementsDraft certificates of insurance for incoming artworks upon requestReview proof of insurance from consignees/borrowers to ensure that adequate coverage is in place prior to artwork releaseReview and vet facilities reports from borrowing institutions to ensure adequateenvironmental conditions for outgoing artworksCorrespond with staff, artists/artists’ studios, collectors, institutions, vendors andconservatorsOversee artwork installations; occasional courier trips/travel may be requiredCollaborate with relevant staff to troubleshoot and record artwork installation specifics and draft instructions/guidesWork closely with artists/studios/estates, art handlers, shipping and other registrar staff to coordinate proper packing, storage and movement of artworkContribute data to build registrar, art fairs and exhibitions show budgetsMaintain big-picture, long-term view of all projects and ensure that day-to-day function is in sync with greater gallery goalsManage special projects as assignedWhat You’ll Bring:BA required (MA preferred) in Art History, Studio Art or related fieldMinimum 2+ years registrar experience; courier experience a plusPossession of in-depth knowledge of registrarial best practices and procedures including knowledge of safe art handling and packing practices Strong knowledge of the gallery world and of modern and contemporary artExperience working with artworks of varying media is a plusAbility to be flexible in a teamwork, fast paced, deadline driven environment Ability to effectively interact with and gain the confidence of clients, artists/artists’ studios, vendors, and staffExcellent interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skillsAbility to be detail-oriented, organized and confident with managing projects, and excellent with taking initiative and following throughAbility to work well under pressure and prioritize multiple high-level projectsStrong proficiency in Word, Excel, and OutlookDemonstrated ability to work well independently Compensation estimation for this role is $60,000-$80,000.In addition to an active and progressive work environment, Pace Gallery offers a competitive benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance, retirement plans with a company match, flexible spending accounts and commuter benefits.
