Pace London at 6 Burlington Gardens now open

Pace is delighted to announce the opening of its flagship gallery in London, located at 6 Burlington Gardens in the historic Mayfair district. Pace London inaugurates the gallery with Rothko/Sugimoto: Dark Paintings and Seascapes, the first private gallery exhibition of Rothko's work in London in nearly fifty years.Located directly north of the Royal Academy of Art’s Burlington House, Pace London occupies the west wing of the building, which is owned by the Royal Academy, and has been renovated by architect and Royal Academician Sir David Chipperfield. Pace London is led by Mollie Dent-Brocklehurst, who oversees both 6 Burlington Gardens and Pace London's existing location at 6-10 Lexington Street in Soho.

The inaugural exhibition at 6 Burlington Gardens juxtaposes Mark Rothko's late black and grey paintings with Hiroshi Sugimoto's contemporary photographs of bodies of water, exploring the visual and philosophical affinities between the two. The exhibition extends Pace's five-decade tradition of exhibitions that initiate dialogues between artists working across time periods, geography, and mediums.

Rothko/Sugimoto: Dark Paintings and Seascapes will be on view from 4 October through 17 November, 2012. Pace London at 6 Burlington Gardens is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and is free to the public.
