Yoshitomo Nara at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art

"Believing in art as a means to form connections, [Nara] leaves open a space for a variety of different readings and emotional responses, ranging from catharsis to political defiance and hope."

Yoshitomo Nara: for better or worse, Works 1987 - 2017 opens July 15 at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in Japan. The exhibition traces the evolution of the artist's work, from a student in Germany in the late 1980s, to a well-traveled international artist in the present day. 'For better or worse,' a wedding vow, reflects the artist's commitment to his work as his past, his present, and his future.

Yoshitomo Nara for better or worse: Works 1987 - 2017 will be on view from July 15 through September 24 at the Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in Japan. For more information, visit the museum's wesbite
