Press Release

  • Shanghai West Bund Art and Design Fair

Pace Beijing is delighted to announce the participation to 2014 Shanghai West Bund Art and Design Fair at Booth B1. The fair will officially open on September 26 at West Bund Art Center of Xuhui Waterfront, Shanghai. Two artists, Carsten Nicolai and Qiu Xiaofei, will be featured on this fair.

As with many of Nicolai's works, the work moiré glass, which will be shown at the fair, engages in an interactive creative process with the viewer; as he or she views through the six silk-screened glass plates, attached vertically to a central column, the overlapping patterns produce a variety of optical illusions.

Pace Beijing is also showing four new oil paintings by Qiu Xiaofei, who has just exhibited his solo exhibition Apollo Bangs Dionysusthis spring at Pace Beijing. The artist continues his exploration of the "path" of painting, which is a direction that combines both contingency and restriction, and demonstrates a new working path: to set a starting point of working with the combination of possibility and boundary, and by using a limited physical situation or a mental state full of randomness to test and dredge an implementation process of this path as well as a suspended end. In this process, one’s physical, mental, and consciousness (plus subconscious) will be challenged to the extreme.
